IJM’s Uganda Office is seeking an investigations professional with outstanding leadership ability and significant experience to join its effort to bring relief to vulnerable widows and orphans victimized by succession-related property grabbing.
This position is based in Gulu, Uganda and reports to the Senior Investigative Specialist.
Responsibilities
The Investigative Specialist will investigative and document cases of abuse and oppression and will have responsibility for the security of victims, witnesses, and IJM staff. Specifically, the Investigative Specialist’s duties will include the following:

This position is based in Gulu, Uganda and reports to the Senior Investigative Specialist.
Responsibilities
The Investigative Specialist will investigative and document cases of abuse and oppression and will have responsibility for the security of victims, witnesses, and IJM staff. Specifically, the Investigative Specialist’s duties will include the following:
- Develop thorough understanding of evidence needed in property grabbing cases, and available methods for obtaining such evidence;
- Work closely with IJM Staff Attorneys to evaluate investigative needs on each case;
- Develop and implement investigative strategies;
- Recruit, train and manage contract-based investigative professionals;
- Create regular written reports detailing investigative developments and plans;
- Evaluate investigation outcomes and re-assess investigative strategies;
- Effectively utilize camera and other investigative equipment;
- Cultivate and maintain close working relationships with police and other law enforcement authorities;
- Help provide training to police and other law enforcement authorities when requested;
- Participate in office-wide programs addressing spiritual formation and professional training; and
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Senior Investigative Specialist.
- This position requires frequent daytime travel outside of Kampala.
- Degree in law, psychology, criminal justice, and/or other relevant field;
- Significant experience in criminal investigation with the police or
with a public law enforcement agency, international human rights agency,
public international agency, private investigative or security firm, or
military or national security agency;
- Ability to creatively and critically analyze investigative problems and evaluate potential solutions;
- Aptitude with recruitment, management, and discipline of other investigative professionals;
- Ability to communicate effectively with police and other law enforcement officials;
- Prior leadership and/or management experience preferred; and
- Computer literate: proficient in MS Word and e-mail; able to type at least 40 words per minute.
- Mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles' Creed;
